Yoga & Ayurveda became part of Maya' life at the age of 16 while she lived in the unceded territory of the Tupi-Guarani - one of the 2000 tribes and nations once inhibiting what we now call the country of Brazil. Maya became a Yoga teacher soon after graduating from Brazil's compulsory educational system. Her initiation as a spiritual seeker was guided by her love for Dance and by a spontaneous spiritual psycho-somatic experience induced by a creative movement session during a Yoga conference in Brazil. Soon after, Maya's heart led her to California where she met Master Yogi Baba Hari Dass, who became her guru. Along with senior students of Yoga, as part of an intentional community and retreat center nestled within the redwood forests of Santa Cruz mountains, Maya spent most of her adult years immersed in the sacred teachings of Classical Ashtanga Yoga of Patanjali, as taught by Baba Hari Dass. She spent a decade living and working within a community of 70-80 spiritual seekers, serving her community as Yoga, Dance Teacher & Director of Choreography for Mount Madonna School's Theater Arts Department, as a massage therapist and manager for Kayakalpa Wellness Center, and as as a gardener, cook, and member of Mount Madonna Center's managing team - all the while doing what she loved doing best: being the mother of two incredible beings!
Within the context of community living, Maya received formal training in the sciences of Yoga & Ayurveda at Mount Madonna Institute. She is a Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner by NAMA (National Ayurvedic Medical Association), a 500hr Certified Yoga Teacher, and a Certified Massage Practitioner by CAMTC (California Massage Therapy Council). With the encouragement of Babaji, who encouraged many of his students to pursue higher education, Maya received an BA in Latin American and Latino Studies with a minor in Indigenous Studies from UCSC, and now holds a MBA in Sustainable Business from Maharishi International University.
Ayurveda departs from the principle that complete health comes from a sustained state of homeostasis in body, mind, and spirit, together with a reciprocal relationship with nature. In her practice as Ayurvedic Practitioner, Maya combines practical life experience, intuitive knowledge and devotion to all that is most sacred in support of herself and her client's journey towards greater health and fulfillment.

Receiving Mayanā's healing intention through her restorative touch is truly a special blessing. As I receive from Mayanā, I increasingly connect with a beautiful spiritual space as my physical stresses are transformed into inner body equanimity. Mayanā's intuition and knowledge are exceptional.
