This land is part of the broader archipelago known as the Hawaiian Islands, which have been inhabited and cared for by the Kanaka Maoli, the indigenous people of Hawaii, for generations upon generations. Anahola, situated on the island of Kauai, holds a deep and significant cultural and historical connection to the Kanaka Maoli. The land in and around Anahola is not only the source of sustenance but also the repository of ancestral knowledge, customs, and traditions. It has been a place of gathering, storytelling, and the passing down of wisdom from one generation to the next. We acknowledge that the Kanaka Maoli continue to maintain their deep spiritual, cultural, and physical connection to this land despite the historical injustices and challenges they have faced. The effects of colonialism, land dispossession, and forced assimilation persist, yet the resilience and strength of the Kanaka Maoli endure. As we benefit from being on this sacred and beautiful land, we commit to honoring and respecting the Kanaka Maoli, their heritage, and their ongoing contributions to the well-being of Hawaii and the world. We strive to be mindful of the complex history and present-day issues faced by Indigenous communities and to work collaboratively toward justice, equity, and healing. We express our gratitude to the Kanaka Maoli for their stewardship of this land and for allowing us to be guests and partners in their ancestral homeland. May we all actively participate in the restoration of harmony, respect, and justice in our relationship with the land and its original inhabitants. With humility and respect, Sacred Shakti September 1, 2023
